Naturopath Q & A
Chronic illness and complex conditions
Reine DuBois, the founder of The Health Lodge, is an integrative naturopath who helps patients with complex health conditions establish true wellness.
When did your passion for natural health first begin?
I entered into the health industry as an aerobics instructor and quickly understood that we needed more than exercise to be healthy. I discovered the science of naturopathy and feel deeply in love with this modality. I was also struggling with my hormones at the time and was keen to address these issues without the use of the oral contraceptive pill. My studies into naturopathy were put to use immediately and received its benefits first hand healing my Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).
In your clinical practice, what areas do you focus on?
I have a special interest in solving complex health conditions. I’m particularly interested in immune conditions such as fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, mould illness, tick borne disease, stealth infections and auto-immune diseases. I also love co-ordinating teams for patients and overseeing their healing progress.
What inspired you to create The Health Lodge?
The Health Lodge was a vision I have been working on creating for 10 years. I wanted to create a haven for patients where they could receive all the treatments they needed under the one roof. I wanted practitioners to work together to support the patient with medical, psychological, nutritional, herbal and physical support. When we work together sharing our knowledge, we come to understand the aspects of someone’s individual health issues.
Take us through ‘”a day on your plate” – what do you eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, drinks and snacks?
After oil pulling upon waking, I have a green tea and a breakfast high in protein like eggs and avocado. Lunch is often leftovers form the night before. Dinner is often fish or chicken with veggies. I shop local for most of my ingredients and am particular with my foods being nutrient-dense and organic. I also drink 1-2 litres of filtered water daily.
What are your four top tips/non-negotiable when it comes to thriving health?
1. A massage every three weeks
2. Two lighthouse walks each week
3. Drinking good-quality water every day
What do you love about Byron Bay?
The ocean – it’s my instant reset. I love being able to raise my children in this beautiful region, with lots of family adventures in the hinterlands and by the sea. I also love being surrounded by a like-minded community that values health and healing.
